Predicting the NFL 2024 Season Awards

As we gear up for the NFL 2024 season, several intriguing storylines are shaping the race for this year’s awards. Will a young quarterback make an immediate splash and snag the MVP title? Could a standout defensive player finally break through and claim the Defensive Player of the Year award. Meanwhile, veterans coming off injuries or bounce-back seasons add an extra layer of not-so-much-drama. These storylines set the stage for an exciting season where individual brilliance and team success collide, making the race for these prestigious awards all the more thrilling.

Trying to predict the NFL season awards is tradition when it comes to keeping sanity between the last preseason game and the start of week one. To fill the time and start the discussion, here are my predictions to win each of the NFL awards along with their odds via DraftKings.

Most Valuable Player: CJ Stroud +800

Last season Stroud put up 274 passing yards a game through his 15 games played. Stroud only had one 1,000 yard receiver who is returning and is now adding a wide receiver in Stefon Diggs who has been a top 5 receiver for the last five years. Stroud could be poised for a 5,000 passing yard season making him only the 10th player in NFL history to do so.

Offensive Player of the Year: CeeDee Lamb +1000

Lamb just signed a huge contract that makes him the second highest paid receiver in a per year basis. Lamb has been improving year by year with the best year of his career coming last season where he led the league in receptions and yards after catch. With Dak Prescott looking to earn top quarterback pay in his last contract year, I fully expect him to be in top shape. Along with the Cowboys lack of backfield we could be looking at a record number of passes thrown with majority of them finding CeeDee Lamb.

Defensive Player of the Year: Maxx Crosby +700

From a runner up Defensive Rookie of the Year award to a 4th and 6th year finish in voting the last two years — this is the year that Crosby finally see's his name as the winner. Crosby led the league in tackles for loss in 2023 and had 14.5 sacks and 55 solo tackles. I think Crosby takes the lead this season with the Raiders offense likely not using much time on the field creating more opportunities for Crosby.

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Bo Nix +1000

Bo Nix is one of the oldest rookie quarterbacks in the draft class which means nothing to me except; experience. In his last season Nix progressed yet another year of his career throwing for 4500 passing yards with only one top 50 wide receiver in collegiate football. For every 15 touchdowns in his last college season, Nix had one interception. He won the starting job in Denver as expected and will have the most statistical success of any of the draft picks.

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Laiatu Latu +425

In the preseason it was obvious that Latu shouldn’t have been playing with any string other than the first. He was a force like he was in his last college year where he led the NCAA in tackles for loss and 4th in sacks. Laiatu was the first defensive player taken in the draft at pick #15 and will add some much needed help to the Colts defense.

Coach of the Year: Matt Eberflus +850

The improvements that Chicago has made in the off-season are going to be what gets Eberflus this award. Upgrades at quarterback, adding a young and valuable receiver and grabbing a running back who had a 1,000 rushing yard season last year. I don’t think the Bears make the playoffs strictly because of their division but they will be a much more exciting team to watch and could potentially win more games this upcoming season.

Comeback Player of the Year: Aaron Rodgers +140

This is actually the easiest pick of the awards — as long as Rodgers finishes this season this award is his. After leaving in game one of the 2023 season if Rodgers will either have to miss again or have the worst year of his career… which could still get him the award.

You Agree?

How would you see these awards going down? These predictions filter in some heavy favorites like A-Rod and some surprising predictions like a CJ Stroud 5,000 passing yard season. It’s all yet to come but is there one particular prediction that you can’t get behind?

There is tons of players that are capable of winning each of these awards but the real question is who will be honored come the end of the season. For now, we’ll check back at the end of the season when it comes to this.
